MSTM is developing a high throughput multi-ionization vacuum ionization source capable of vauum MALDI (1 sample/sec) and vacuum MAI (1 sample/3 sec) with high sensitivity. The attached video shows the simplicity of obtaining mass spectra from a single sample of ubiquitin in a undiluted detergent solution using 3-NBN as the vMAI matrix. Once the sample plate is loaded onto the guiderail, multiple samples can be acquired by simply sliding the multisample plate over the channel to the vacuum of the mass spectrometer. Ionization spontaneously occurs when the sample experiences the vacuum of the mass spectrometer. In the video, we show loading, acquiring, and unloading the sample in ca. 10 sec.
